The Palace (2011)
A Cypriot family fleeing Turkish forces in Cyprus in 1974 take refuge in an abandoned Ottoman-era palace. When a young Turkish Cypriot conscript comes face to face with the family in hiding, he is forced to confront the harsh realities of war.
The Palace is a Cypriot-Australian short film co-production, written and directed by Anthony Maras which received strong critical and audience acclaim both locally and internationally including a premiere at the 2011 Telluride Film Festival. The Australian Film Review praised the film as “one of the most impressive and ambitious Australian shorts…at the Sydney Film Festival so far. Or ever.”
