My Tehran For Sale (2009)
Marzieh is a young female actress living in Tehran. The authorities ban her theatre work and, like all young people in Iran, she is forced to lead a secret life in order to express herself artistically.
Filmed in Iran in 2008, My Tehran for Sale is the debut feature film for poet turned filmmaker Granaz Moussavi. The film premiered internationally at the Toronto Film Festival in 2009 and won the IF Independent Spirit Award. Controversy surrounded the film when in 2011 actress Marzieh Vafamehr was sentenced to one year in prison and 90 lashes for her involvement with the film. Her sentence was eventually reduced and she was subsequently released after 118 days.
