my tehran for sale

the beginning

Writer/director Granaz Moussavi migrated to Adelaide when she was 23 with her family in 1997. She completed her Honours degree in Screen Studies at Flinders University in 2004, and received her Graduate Diploma in Editing at AFTRS in 2005. In 2006, once Granaz had finished the first draft of her feature film MY TEHRAN FOR SALE, she approached the artistic director of the Adelaide Film Festival, Katrina Sedgwick. The idea of supporting a film shot in Iran but made by Australians appealed to Katrina but as there was no producer attached, she suggested Julie Ryan and Kate Croser who were working together on TEN CANOES at Vertigo Productions.

During the 2007 Adelaide Film Festival, Bahman Ghobadi, who was visiting from Iran with his latest film HALF MOON, offered production assistance on the ground in Tehran, and with that support, MY TEHRAN FOR SALE was given the go ahead.

Cyan Films was also born that day as Julie Ryan and Kate Croser formally started their Adelaide-based production company and set about bringing MY TEHRAN FOR SALE to the screen.
